ENTERTAINMENT
This is one of the few places in the world where archaeological treasures and abundant natural attractions converge.
This area comprises the Loa River Basin, which is surrounded by villages and towns of pre-Hispanic origin. Close to the Salar de Atacama and San Pedro de Atacama, the city serves as a natural gateway to the world’s driest desert.
Chuquicamata Mining
Chuquicamata is located 16 km from Park Hotel Calama. It is a modern mining site where you can observe the operations at the world’s largest open-pit copper mine, which has been in operation since 1910.
Pre-Columbian Peoples
Chiu Chiu, located 40 km from the hotel, it is inhabited primarily by indigenous peoples. Its San Francisco Church is the most beautiful in the entire region. Pukará de Lasana is an indigenous fortress and the best-preserved ruin of the Atacameño culture.
Caspana, a fertile valley located at 2,900 meters above sea level, it is a town whose architecture combines liparite stone construction and clay roofs.
Finally, Pukara de Turi is a large fortress perched in the Atacama Mountains.
San Pedro de Atacama
Located 105 km from the hotel, the highway crosses a spectacular desert landscape, passing through the Domeyko Mountain Range, the Llano de la Paciencia, and the Cordillera de la Sal.
San Pedro de Atacama stands out as a town that houses the greatest pre-Columbian artifacts and artifacts in the area. For this reason, the town was awarded the title of Archaeological Capital of Chile.
Excursions
Valle de la Luna: This is a geographical depression measuring 500 meters in diameter, surrounded by impressive hills with sharp peaks. The valley displays an intense transformation of the Earth’s surface and is undoubtedly a stunning geological sight.
Salar de Atacama
Located 2,000 meters above sea level, it is a 3,000 km depression without any water drainage.
Geisers del Tatio
It is a geothermal field, in which violent vents expel water vapor at dawn.
